Most calorie apps guess what you burn. They take your height, weight and age, run a formula published in 1990, multiply by an activity level you picked from a dropdown, and hand you a number. If that number is wrong - and for most people it is, by hundreds of calories - you spend months eating to a target that was never yours.

Cut measures it instead.

Log what you eat, step on the scale most mornings, and after about two weeks the app can work backwards. If you averaged 2,400 calories a day and your weight trend fell 0.4 kg over the fortnight, your body burned roughly 2,840. That is your number, measured from your own data, and it updates as you change - which is exactly when a formula stops being right.

HOW YOU LOG
- Photograph a meal and get calories, protein, carbs and fat back in a few seconds.
- Scan a barcode for anything packaged.
- Say it out loud: "two eggs on toast and a flat white".
- Or just type the name. "Red bull" comes back as 110 calories, and says it assumed the 250 ml can, so you can correct it.
- One tap re-logs anything you eat often.

WHY THAT NUMBER
Tap your target and the app shows its working: what you ate, what your weight did over how many days, and therefore what you burn. It also shows how hard your deficit actually is as a share of your own burn - because 500 calories a day is a gentle trim on one body and a savage cut on another.

WHAT IT TELLS YOU
- A daily target sized from your measured burn rate, not a formula.
- A smoothed weight trend, because a single morning reading is mostly water.
- An honest weekly verdict: on track, over, or not enough data to say yet.
- Your protein for the day, which is the second thing that matters on a cut.

A COACH THAT SPEAKS FIRST
Four check-ins a day, written from your own numbers. In the morning: what today needs, and how yesterday actually went. At midday: your pace. Before dinner: what is realistically left, and never a suggestion to skip a meal. At night: how the day landed, and whether it is becoming a pattern.

Pick how it talks to you - gentle, direct or blunt. Ask it anything and it answers from your history, not from generic advice.

YOUR KITCHEN
Keep a list of what you actually have, added from a receipt, a photo of a shelf, or typing. Then two meal ideas for tonight built from what is in the house and what is left of your day - and a short shopping list worked out from your protein target, what you actually eat, and what you already own.

WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS
A short guide to what genuinely moves fat loss - logging consistency, protein, lifting, sleep, steps - each point checked against your own numbers where the app has them, and saying plainly when it does not have enough to say. Every claim states how strong the evidence behind it actually is.

NOT EVERY DAY IS A NORMAL DAY
Mark a day as rest, sick, travelling or off plan and it drops out of the maths entirely, and the coach stops asking about it. A week of gastro should not quietly convince an app that your metabolism changed.

WHAT IT WILL NOT DO
- It will not show you a number it has not measured. Before there is enough data, it says so, rather than inventing a target.
- It will never tell you to eat below a safe floor, however the maths comes out.
- It will not praise you for under-eating.
- There are no streaks to protect, no shaming, and no moralising about food.
