Cyrus Calendar

The imperial calendar is thought of as more than a calendar in the usual sense: it is a symbol of identity that links ancient Iran to the modern age. The starting point of this calendar is the year Cyrus the Great began his reign (559 BCE), and its observances emphasize national identity and Iran's historical heritage.

The Great Cyrus Calendar connects the present to the founding of the first truly pan-national state (the Achaemenids), engendering a sense of historical continuity. It helps Iranians see themselves not as a new nation, but as heirs to a 2,500-year-old civilization that measures time by its own cultural achievements.

A central value of this calendar is that it is "Iran-centered." In this design, the starting point of time rests on an internationally influential, peace-seeking figure (Cyrus the Great), whose cylinder on human rights is world-famous; this supports national pride and cultural self-confidence within the Iranian community, both at home and abroad.

Because it follows the same structure as the Jalali calendar (the most accurate solar calendar in the world), it keeps its scientific and astronomical value. تقویم شاهنشاهی، فراتر از یک گاه‌شمار، بلکه به عنوان یک نماد هویتی و پیوند‌دهنده تاریخ باستان ایران به عصر مدرن تصور می‌شود. مبدأ این تقویم، سال آغاز پادشاهی کوروش بزرگ (۵۵۹ پیش از میلاد) است و مناسبت‌های آن، بر هویت ملی و پیشینه تاریخی ایران، تأکید دارد.

از آنجایی که این تقویم در واقع همان ساختار دقیق تقویم جلالی (دقیق‌ترین گاه‌شماری خورشیدی جهان) را دارد، ارزش علمی و نجومی خود را حفظ کرده است. شروع سال با اعتدال بهاری و جشن نوروز، پیوند عمیق انسان ایرانی با طبیعت و آیین‌های کهن زیست‌محیطی را یادآوری می‌کند.

داشتن یک مبدأ تاریخی اختصاصی که نشان‌دهنده ریشه‌های کهن یک ملت باشد، به ایران یک اصالت خاص فرهنگی می‌بخشد و بر استقلال فرهنگی و تمدن ایران تأکید دارد.
