The analysis happens on the device using Apple's Vision framework for scenes and framing, a compact neural model for grouping faces, sound analysis for the audio, and a fast native engine that assembles the timeline. On modern iPhones a montage from dozens of clips takes seconds, and it works the same in airplane mode.
