The Thousand Character Classic — 千字文 — was composed in 6th-century China by the Liang-dynasty scholar Zhou Xingsi. It uses exactly one thousand distinct Chinese characters, arranged into 250 four-character rhyming stanzas. For more than 1,500 years it has been the first book Korean and Japanese students opened to learn classical characters.

Chunja is a quiet, modern way to read it.

— Calm by design
No streak counters. No flame icons. No notifications. No advertising. This is not a game. Two to three minutes a day is enough, the way it has always been.

— Original order, original units
We open with "天地玄黃 宇宙洪荒" and we close with "焉哉乎也." The original 250-stanza sequence is preserved. Each four-character stanza is the unit of study.

— Three languages, one screen
Korean readings (eum·hun), Japanese readings (on'yomi·kun'yomi), and English meanings, side by side. Display follows your iOS system language, or pin a single language in Settings.

— Trace
Practice the brushstrokes by finger or Apple Pencil on a hanji grid. No recognition, no scoring — just the old way of writing along.

— Stays on your device
No account. No cloud. No login. Progress is stored locally; the full text is bundled, so the app works offline.

— Source
Korean readings and meanings are sourced from Korean Wikisource (번역:천자문, public domain).

Read slowly. Remember long.
